With the advent of Web 2.0 wherein the internet is not anymore confined to simple HTML web pages, internet connectivity has evolved from the mere use of the web browser to the proliferation of communicator apps such as Skype and vSee and cloud applications like Dropbox, Google Docs, and One Drive.
Should we limit ourselves to communicators and cloud applications? Our technology driven era are governed by apps. From the PC, the internet has jumped to our smartphones; and for every smartphone app — whether game, map or transport booking — the internet is something you cannot ignore if you are to use it effectively.
With such ease on connectivity, communication, and information transfer the Internet has given our lives, employers and corporations have exploited the idea of using it to boost more productivity from their staff while giving them the laxity of not enduring the horrors of traffic and stress of daily commute.
Thus, the practice of telecommuting is born. Telecommute or telecommuting is the exercise of working remotely outside of the conventional office. You can telecommute in a restaurant, cyber cafe, hotel room, or in the convenience of your own home. If you have a good Internet connection and a well-functioning computer complete with webcam, mic, and headset, VIOLA, you now have the tools for an efficient telecommute work.
Working remotely has been in practice by many employers and employees for many years now. If you are curious whether there are big companies who practice such kind of work style for their staff, say no more, here they are below.
